Snow has reached Canadian cities this Thanksgiving
Environment Canada’s October 12 afternoon summary reports 6 cm at Swift Current, 5 cm at Weyburn and 3 cm at Moose Jaw following Thanksgiving rain and snow in southern Saskatchewan.
Where were the larger reports?
Shaunavon reported 11 cm, Cypress Hills Park and Rockglen 10 cm each, Mankota and Yellowgrass 7 cm each, Eastend 6 cm, and Bratt’s Lake and Coronach 5 cm each.
Snowfall does not mean the same amount remains outside
The agency says much melted on contact with mild ground. The preliminary summary may include unofficial observations. These event totals do not tell readers how much snow remains outside. Check a current observation for that question.
What about the Trans-Canada and other major highways?
A snowfall report from a city does not establish pavement conditions on a highway through that area. Before travel, check the provincial road service for the actual route, report time, closures and any restrictions. For Saskatchewan travel, use the Highway Hotline. Alberta 511 and DriveBC provide corresponding information for those provinces. This article does not confirm a closure or classify Highway 1, Highway 2, Highway 93 or the Coquihalla as snow-covered.
A useful reminder for homes and properties
For anyone arranging winter service, a dated regional report is a prompt to review the plan for their own property. Confirm who checks conditions, who clears the entrance and walking route, and how an attendance request is handled. Check the agreed service area and availability directly with the provider. A snowfall headline does not book a contractor or establish that a particular property needs plowing.
How Plow.news will report the 2026–27 season
Our snowfall stories identify the place, event date and underlying source. We distinguish reported amounts from forecasts and avoid treating an older highway advisory as a current condition. This October 12 report covers selected Saskatchewan observations; it is not a ranking of all Canadian cities or a national seasonal total.
